Jones Social Knows The Assignment

Cosmopolitan nights start (and linger) here

There are nights out in Dubai that leave a dent in your wallet and nothing much else. Then there are nights like this where the playlist’s good, the Negroni’s better, and the lamb chops actually shut you up mid-sentence.

Jones Social, the new kid from the Jones the Grocer family, sits in the Embassy Suites by Hilton in Business Bay. It’s part restaurant, part lounge, part late-night bar and it wants you to hang out, stay a while, maybe order another round, and then stay a bit longer.

From the outside, it doesn’t scream for attention. Step inside, though, and there’s a quiet confidence in the space. Modern without being cold. Comfortable bench seating, good spacing between tables (you don’t feel like you’re eavesdropping or being eavesdropped), and a genuinely good-looking bar right at the centre. The terrace is a win too. It’s warm and inviting, perfect for those slower sessions that go from post-work drinks to pre-dinner hunger to late-night “we might as well just order dessert.”

We kicked off with a couple of starters: the Manchego Chorizo Croquettas are as good as they sound: crisp on the outside, rich on the inside, and the macadamia romesco sauce is a scene-stealer. I’d order those again without hesitation. The Crispy Calamari, though? That’s the one that caught me off guard. Togarashi dust, just the right fry, and a generous dollop of kewpie mayo. It’s familiar, yes, but better than most versions in the city – and that’s saying something, given how often calamari shows up on menus and completely disappoints. Not here.

For mains, the signature Steak & Slaw was good. A 200g sirloin with corn and cabbage slaw and yuzu aioli. Personally, I’d take a bit more char, but the flavour was there and the plating was clean. It did its job. But the one you come back for – and I mean drive-out-of-your-way-and-plan-your-week-around-it – is the Gochujang Lamb Chops. Three beautifully cooked chops with charred cucumber, smoked labneh, and lavash crisps. Rich, tender, with that kind of subtle heat that stays with you just long enough to remind you you’re eating something remarkable. It’s bold and balanced and exactly what you hope for from a hero dish.

Dessert gave us two very different endings. The Kaffir Lime Tart was there, it was fine, no complaints – but the Rose & Yuzu Pavlova was the real finish. That’s the one you should not, under any circumstance, agree to share. Airy meringue, bright citrus, delicate floral sweetness – it’s the dish that brings on that contented sigh of foodie joy.

As for the drinks – the Smoked Negroni is the one. Complex, well-balanced, and yes, it does the whole smoky theatrics thing, but this time it earns it. There’s flair, but there’s also substance. The mocktail menu rotates daily, which is a smart move. Ours was a passionfruit blend that held its own without tasting like an afterthought.

Now, the nightlife piece. Jones Social doesn’t just feed you – it keeps you. On Thursday and Friday nights, DJ Cattaree takes over with a sound that evolves through the evening. It’s vibey without being overwhelming . Saturdays are brunch territory, but with a twist: it starts at 3pm, carries you into the evening, and if you’re with the right people, it doesn’t end when the table’s cleared . Ladies’ Night on Tuesdays delivers good value, decent drinks, and a crowd that feels less like a promo and more like a proper night out . And there’s a Social Hour from Monday to Friday, where AED 25 cocktails and bites take the edge off the workday without setting your credit card on fire .

Credit where it’s due: the service was excellent. Restaurant manager, Sebastian, and the team kept things moving smoothly, drinks topped, questions answered, no awkward gaps or ghosting. That’s rarer than it should be in Dubai, and it added to the sense that this place gets it.

So yes. There were ice blocks. There were smoky domes. The theatre’s there. But here’s the thing: when the food is genuinely good and the experience holds up, the showmanship feels earned. Jones Social pulls off the balancing act: it looks the part, sounds the part, and, crucially, tastes the part.

You could come for brunch, or DJ night, or after-work drinks. But if you ask me, come for the lamb, stay for the night, and let the evening figure itself out.
