RIMOWA: 126 Years of Iconic Aluminum Luggage

The Sea Blue collection is the brand’s latest offering inspired by the region’s ocean

There aren’t that many luggage brands that you can identify by looks alone, however, RIMOWA’s distinctive features have become a favourite among the well-travelled. Celebrities, dignitaries, and royalty have all been seen whisking their iconic RIMOWA suitcases through many an airport, making it one of the most coveted brands out there.

This year marks the 126th year of the German manufacturing luggage company. Though many know it for their aluminium suitcases, their first-ever trunks and chests were made out of wood and quickly became the accessory of choice to travel with.

To help us understand their work with aluminium we have to go back to 1930, when the warehouse burst into flames and most of their items perished. All but one item – a light silver-grey flame-resistant material. This was the revelation that inspired RIMOWA’s classic aluminium suitcase.

Over the years the sizes, shapes, interiors, and colours have changed to fit evolving customer needs. However, the distinct grooves remained, and still differentiate the iconic suitcase from those in the market.

UnfilteredDXB was allowed to explore a range that resonates with one of the main features of the region – the sea. RIMOWA launched Sea Blue to capture the essence and serene energy of the ocean.

Sea Blue suitcases have TSA-approved locks, a multi-wheel system, a stage-free telescopic handle and a removable, adjustable flex divider that allows you to pack more whilst keeping your items in perfect order during transport.

One major flex for RIMOWA is that anytime your suitcase needs repairing, they loan you a suitcase free of charge to be used until your own suitcase is returned to you.

RIMOWA provides a lifetime manufacturer guarantee for suitcases that covers all functional aspects of your mobile suitcase but does not apply to cosmetic wear and tear, misuse, or abuse. They can also be registered on the website by scanning it using tan NFC.

To maintain the integrity of the suitcases it’s best to keep them away from extreme temperatures, acids and alkalis. To clean them, it’s best to use a microfiber or cotton cloth dampened with cleaning water. Avoid using alcohol, abrasive agents, or chemical products for cleaning your suitcase or removing stickers.

To discover more on the Sea Blue range and many others please visit RIMOWA’S website or visit their stores in Mall of Emirates or Dubai Mall where their attentive staff are on hand.
